I’m so excited to have a great series to work on while I wait for the next book in Dashner’s teen series that began with The Maze Runner (The Scorch Trials in October). The Journal of Curious Letters is the first in a series of five for (roughly) 9 to 12 year-olds. It follows a boy named Tick as he tries to unravel the clues in mysterious letters sent from all over the world. He is handed a quest and he must face dangers and reality-bending realizations in order to fulfill it. I’ll tell you just a bit of what he discovers: the world that we know is really just the first of thirteen different realities; the choices we make can create a whole different worlds full of alternate versions of ourselves and the people around us; the evil Mistress Jane is trying to take over the Realities and it’s up to a group of kids (because no adult would ever believe any of this) to stop her; Quantum Physics is really cool and way more important than you might think. This is a refreshing, unique story. It’s just about the only kid’s fantasy book I can think of where one of the parents is actually in on all the adventure – helping and supporting him along the way. Book 2 is out in paperback now and I think I’ll take it on my next vacation. ~Lillian
