First, let me be clear. I am not into cherubs and glowing angels so I
surprised myself when I picked up this fantasy novel about fallen
angels, but I can’t remember being so entertained in a very long time!
There is a war being fought -- a war between the powerful Nephiline,
offspring of the fallen angels mentioned in the book of Genesis and the
human race. Except most humans are unaware of the angels’ presence.
Only the angelologists, a secret society of scholars from around the
world are aware of the angels and the danger they pose to humanity.
When she was a very young girl, Sister Evangeline’s mother was
kidnapped and killed. A year later, when the girl was 12-years-old, her
father placed her in the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration
convent where she later became a nun. Now 23-years old, she works in
the convent’s archives, a job which also includes responding to
requests to visit the vast and very old library housing an enormous
collection of books, scrolls and art related to angels. One day she
receives a letter from a man asking to visit the library to investigate
a possible link between the philanthropist Abigail Rockefeller and the
convent. Curious, Sister Evangeline makes a discovery which eventually
changes not only her life, but the lives of everyone around her.
Like J.K. Rowling opened her readers’ eyes to the possibility of
magic, Angelology by Danielle Trussoni convincingly creates a world
filled with the glory and disgrace of fallen angels. It is a
remarkable novel filled with mythology, Biblical history and utterly
engaging characters. But it is also a mystery with one of the most
surprising endings I have ever read! Pure fun!
