Gone is the fifth book in the Jack
Caffrey series but only the first I’ve read, and it held up just fine
as a stand-alone. Caffrey is a Detective Inspector with Bristol’s Major
Crime unit, and he has been called in to investigate what appears to be
a routine carjacking. Though there was an eleven-year-old girl in the
car, Caffrey feels confident that the carjacker isn’t interested in her
and that she will turn up shortly. When the police receive an anonymous
note, however, it quickly becomes evident that the situation is far
worse than he expected. This is a dark, gritty and compelling mystery
that really kept me guessing. I‘ve read my fair share of mysteries, but
Gone had a twist that I never saw coming! ~Torrie
