Another gift of a book from the talented Fannie Flagg (Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café).
Maggie Fortenberry is a former Miss Alabama beauty queen who is having a
tough time finding meaning in her life. She is now 60 years old. Her
real estate company is barely hanging on and she is tired of keeping up
appearances. She has decided it is time to “leave” and plans her
suicide. But things keep happening and LIFE gets in the way so she keeps
postponing it and uses white out to continually change the date on her
suicide note.
The characters in this book are charming, funny, quirky, even some of
the scenes with the despicable Babs who steals clients away from Maggie
have laugh out loud moments. And then there is Hazel. Meeting Hazel is
pure joy. I can’t leave out Brenda either, Maggie’s best friend, who you
will want for your dear friend as well. Delightfully light and totally
entertaining. ~Cindy
