A Letter from Patti about eBooks
At least once a day, someone asks us how the store is doing? With Borders filing for bankruptcy and the recent closing of two Seattle neighborhood bookstores (Square One Books and Fremont Place Books), I think everyone is aware the book industry is going through a remarkable time of transition and many independent bookstores are struggling to find a foothold in the new marketplace. We are also working hard to find our place and we realize we must embrace the changes or be left behind. We believe there is still room for both paper books, as well as digital media, because we will continue to match readers with their perfect books, recommend our current favorite reads to our community, and offer excellent service, no matter what format you choose.
We know ebooks are here to stay - they offer a convenience that is welcome in our busy, transient lives. That is why we joined with other independent bookstores in December 2010 to offer Google eBooks through our website. In the coming months, you will find more and more information about ebooks in the store and on our website. I’m also hoping to have an open house where we will talk about ebooks and ereaders.
The bottom line: We have loved being a part of the Queen Anne Community for many years; we are doing our best to respond to the changing bookselling industry; and we hope to be a part of your lives for many years to come. Thank you for your continued support and, most importantly, keep reading! ~Patti
