Graceling fans, take note:  you won't want to miss this debut by author Leah Cypess!  Mistwood is the perfect mix of fantasy, action, intrigue, and romance. The story begins in a mystical forest, when Isabel, known as the Shifter, is bound to the young soon-to-be-king Rokan by a magical bracelet. The Shifter is a mythical creature which can take on different animal forms, but Isabel's memory is erased and her powers are weak.  However, her instincts and fierce fighting skills are of use almost immediately in the dangerous, courtly world she now inhabits. Intrigue, secrets, and threats test destiny and devotion, and Isabel begins to question all that she knows about herself and her sole purpose: protecting the King.
BR>I loved the Arthurian feel of the story, with its sorcerers and swordplay.  The appealing atmosphere provides a background for great characters: Isabel's determination and power make her a fascinating protagonist, and Rokan is a complex and worthy match.  Steeped in adrenaline and magic, this novel (published for teen section) will keep readers of all ages riveted. ~Tegan
