One of my favorite books last year for “Pure Fun” was Farnsworth’s first Nathaniel Cade novel, Blood Oath. Honestly, I surprised myself by enjoying a vampire novel so much but you can be sure the second in the series, The President’s Vampire, made it to the top of my ‘to-read’ pile as soon as the galley hit my front door. Who doesn’t want to read a witty, often funny, page-turner?

Nathaniel Cade has been at the U.S. President’s beck and call for 140 years now having made a voodoo blood oath to not only serve and protect our President and country, but to also abstain from drinking human blood. But, as usual in Cade’s world, something hinky is going on. First, there are the reptilian creatures attacking humans all over the world. Cade first encountered them in the early 20th century and thought he did a pretty good job of eradicating them. But not only are they back, they also seem to have evolved into more efficient and brutal killing machines. Also, Cade answers only to the President or those officials acting on the President’s orders so Zach (Cade’s human handler) and Cade aren’t initially concerned when all current Presidential directives come from the Chief of Staff. But, when they are assigned to work with a devious, shadowy figure who seems to know more than he should, they become concerned. These days, I am only reading to be entertained; nothing too heavy or challenging and The President’s Vampire fit the bill to a “T”! Once again, pure fun. ~Patti
