The Principles of Uncertainty is kind of a hard book to explain, to me it’s a piece of art that I can pick up and look at, read, and carry around with me.
Basically it is the column Maira Kalman did for The New York Times
Op-Extra put in a book format. Wonderfully quirky and touching, Kalman
combines her painting, writing, and photography in a very engaging way.
In book format it feels like a journal with each entry taking you on a
not always clear journey that never leaves you unsatisfied. Each entry
can all at once feel purposeful, random, humorous, poignant, and
thoughtful. The Principles of Uncertainty really made an impression on
me, when I first got home with it over the next few days I just absorb
it from beginning to end. Now I pick it up here or there and absorb it
some more, it is a continual source of inspiration. This is one of my
favorite books to have found in 2009. ~ Mara
