I was very excited to find that there is this sequel to the powerful book Hummingbirds Daughter about the "Saint of Cabora", Teresita Urrea because I really did want to know the rest of the story when I finished the first book several years ago. After the bloody rebellion in Mexico where Teresita has been accused of being the spiritual leader of the Mexican Revolution she and her father flee to Arizona. This is the story of their life in the United States where the life of the healer continues to be very difficult. Some think she is a true Saint, others think she is a witch.

The author creates a novel that is rich with the history of the Wild West at the end of the 19th Century to early 20th Century Manhattan where Teresita is being feted like a Queen in New York's social circles. I was not disappointed at all in this follow up. Even though this is a work of fiction and there is a lot of "myth" surrounding the story of Teresita; she truly did exist and is a great aunt of the author. He was fascinated by the family stories and spent over 20 years doing the research for these two books. As he says, "for all its history, I am no historian, but I am a story teller". And indeed he is. I would recommend reading them in order but it is not a necessity. ~Cindy
