The first snow of the season has fallen in Oslo, and a boy named Jonas wakes up in the night to find his mother gone. Earlier that day, a snowman appeared, seemingly a normal snowman only oddly it’s facing Jonas’s house, and no one knows who made it. Harry Hole is brought in to the investigation and soon believes there’s a link between the disappearance of Jonas’s mother and numerous other women who all went missing on the first day of snow.

Oh my goodness, Jo Nesbø had me hooked right away. I could not put this book down. Numerous times throughout I thought I could see where it was going, but there were so many good twists and turns that I just let it go. This is the latest in the series featuring police investigator Harry Hole but the first I have read of Nesbø’s books, and I had absolutely no problems jumping into the series. I loved this book so much, however, that I will not be able to resist going back to the beginning and reading them all. (The Snowman is the fourth published in the US.) This is an unforgettable mystery that is a highly suspenseful bone chilling read. ~Mara
