Sweet Life In Paris is a fun, quick, and sweet read. David Lebovitz is an American pastry chef and writer who moved to Paris after unexpectedly losing his partner. This is not a romanticized story of Paris, instead it is a witty and sometimes biting account of learning and adjusting (for the most part) to all the specific rules of social conduct in the city. Lebovitz shares stories of misadventures, observations, and culinary discoveries. Each chapter has at least one recipe with a great little story of its own, from Absinthe Cake to Chickpea Crepes (which by the way you must have with a very cold rosé over ice). I absolutely drooled when he talked about the Parisians love of cheese and then there is the chocolate, he loves chocolate, sigh, and so very much do I. At one point his love of sweets inspired him to work in a chocolate shop where each type of chocolate has a specific pair of tongs to be handled with and names like fascination and amour. This book was very entertaining and is full of useful information for anyone who loves food and perhaps some plans of visiting or moving to Paris. ~Mara
