The title caught my eye, but it was the blurbs on the back cover that made me take the book home; in particular the quote from by Bill Gates. It turns out, Russinovich is a local author who has worked at Microsoft as a Technical Fellow since 2006 and is considered a global authority on cyberterrorism. Which leads me to a question: Have you updated your computer lately? After reading Zero Day, I update my computers daily! Jeff Aiken is called into a law firm to try to restore critical data lost due to an apparent computer virus. Jeff used to work for the CIA but after 9/11 felt he could actually accomplish more good by running his own computer-security company.

Daryl Haugen works for the Department of Homeland Security, the division of counter cyberterrorism. On August 14th she contacts her department supervisor about eight incidents of a probable computer virus which has resulted in deaths in different parts of the country.

Jeff and Daryl soon realize that the virus is very complex and very sneaky, avoiding the traps computer security companies use to detect new viruses and malware. They also realize that the USA and Europe are the primary targets and the destruction has only just begun. This is edge-of-your-seat reading. I am not a tech-savvy person but I had no trouble following the storyline; hence my paranoia about running updates on my computers. Fun summer read! ~Patti
